New Zealand's recent flag redesign contest brought forward some really strong contenders, but as it goes with every pageant, the dull, pretty one was chosen as the winner. Even so, it gets one thinking about how other national flag designs were chosen. Presuming the process wasn't as alarmingly democratic as New Zealand's, how did they come about and why? YouTube channel Qriosity put together a nifty little video that, in three minutes, shows how the flags of Europe today came about and how they relate to one another. While simplified, and just a tiny bit manic, the video provides a cool look into how each country's flags came about, some undergoing greater changes than others. Watch it below.
